That’s So YOU! #123

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

I recently overheard a conversation between two friends at a store in the mall. One shopper picked up a top and said to the other, “This is so YOU!” The other shopper squealed, “I LOVE this,” took the top, tried it on, and bought it on the spot. I have to admit that I wondered what my friends would pick out for me besides pajamas and loungewear! Instead of being a slave to fashion, all too often I’m a slave to comfort.

Style is a skill I’ve been developing for quite a long time, and let’s just say I’ve missed the train a few times. I’m addicted to hoodies and yoga pants, but lately, I see the value in having my wardrobe grow up with me. And yes, unlike some other women my age (and older) I’ve sworn off the juniors department!

Part of the fun of developing a wardrobe and a personal style is finding clothes that make you feel more like YOU. I view it as a game. Finding a perfect dress, top, or accessory that you LOVE is worth the search. And style isn’t about money. I’ve seen a friend change a whole outfit just by putting on a great pair of earrings that are so her.

The first step is being willing to spend as much on yourself as you do on others in your house. (I’m no stranger to paying more for an outfit for my daughter at Limited Too than I would for an outfit for myself.) Picking up little things that you love and not feeling guilty, is a great way to start having a closet full of things that bring you joy.

Imagine how easy it will be to get dressed in the morning once your closet is full of things that are so YOU! When you look good, you feel good, and when you feel good, you can accomplish anything. So happy hunting!
